Dr. Olya Zaporozhets, along with Dr. Oksana Syvak, founded IMHC, UIT, IIPE and Open Doors, to meet the critical need for well trained, trauma-informed therapists in Ukraine. These organizations, along with others, under the umbrella Association of Psychological Counseling & Traumatherapy, are comprised of mental health professionals and educators, dedicated to the mission of providing U.S. Standards of Care to Ukraine and countries around the world. Weare already performing the work that will be consolidated at UIT, once it is built.

Since 2016, the International Institute for Postgraduate Education has been training the future of Ukrainian clinicians with a graduate program, based on and collaborated with U.S. universities, and is accredited by the International Registry of Counselor Education programs (IRCEP) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Students are trained to U. S. standards for counselor education and clinical practice and benefit from consultants and professors from all over the world. The graduate program currently offers three education tracks: clinical practice, supervisory level, and instructor level.

Students in the primary level of clinical practice can specialize in one of the following: trauma therapy, child and adolescent therapy, or marriage and family therapy.

Students are trained in best-practice models of psychotherapy including modalities:

                  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR);
                  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT);
                  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); and
                  • Play Therapy.

In addition to classroom and didactic education, all students are required to complete an internship experience in their specialty. The educational program is supported by a team of U.S. and Ukraine-based faculty, supervisors, and consultants. Education is conducted via in-person and virtual training platforms in Ukrainian and English.

Online training on the basics of trauma therapy is provided for a wide range of students. Training is provided by trauma therapists/crisis therapists trained to work according to American standards.

Before training We invite everyone who provides psychological help in the conditions of war, psychologists, volunteers, students, to participate.
